Paithani is a variety of saree, named after Paithan region in Maharashtra state where they are woven by hand. Paithani is characterized by borders of an oblique square design, and a padar with a peacock design. Plain as well as spotted designs are available. There are no loose threads on the reverse side unlike other handloom sarees or the fake copies of it.
